There can be benefits to going off the beaten track… (16/06/2010)

If you have any flexibility in where your meeting can be held it’s well worth considering somewhere slightly off the beaten track.

By that we’re not suggesting a boutique hideaway tucked down an obscure country lane, there are some incredible venues that often get overlooked simply because they’re just outside a city centre.

We recently organised a meeting for a client in a hotel just outside Amsterdam. The hotel offered the same, if not better standard of accommodation and facilities than those in the centre, but for less cost. In addition transfer times were actually shorter than having to travel into the city centre and the hotel’s contract offered far greater flexibility.

That meant if the ash cloud had disrupted travel we’d have been able to reschedule without any problems or penalties. What’s more, because Amsterdam and all its attractions weren’t literally on the doorstep, our client could ‘capture’ its delegates and ensure they stuck around to enjoy the full meeting programme they’d organised.
